Common issues causing rapid oil consumption in the oil pump

1. When excessive engine oil consumption is detected, the generator manufacturer recommends first checking the engine body and the connections of the gear chamber cover, the large plate on the side of the impeller, the rear cover, and the cover for any oil leakage. If leakage is found, the manufacturer advises to carefully inspect whether the sealing gaskets at each connection are intact and to replace any damaged gaskets. If the gaskets are intact, the manufacturer suggests checking whether the connecting bolts at each part are loose. Loose bolts should be tightened to the specified torque with a wrench. If the above parts are basically normal and the oil leak is at the frame position, the manufacturer recommends inspecting the oil housing, mainly the front end of the oil housing on the same side as the impeller. This is often caused by loose base screws, where the impeller, driven by the V-belt, rubs against the frame angle iron protecting the oil housing, wearing through the oil housing and causing a leak.
2. The generator manufacturer analyzes that normal wear from long-term engine use or abnormal wear due to improper maintenance can cause longitudinal scratches on the diesel engine cylinder liner, with cylinder bore and piston side clearance exceeding specified values. This reduces the support force of the piston rings, resulting in incomplete oil scraping. Alternatively, if the internal support spring in the oil ring is broken at the ring's opening, it causes incomplete oil scraping and oil entering the combustion chamber, leading to severe oil consumption symptoms. These symptoms include difficulty starting the diesel engine, obvious blue smoke from the exhaust pipe, and severe oil spraying from the breather. Furthermore, if the piston is installed upside down, causing the combustion chamber to be inverted, although it does not affect engine starting, oil consumption will be quite severe, with daily oil consumption around 0.5 kilograms.
3. The generator manufacturer notes that although severe wear of the valve guide causing oil burning in diesel generator sets is rare, according to relevant information, it is also a cause that should not be overlooked.
