Working principle of the oil pump

The gear-type oil pump is characterized by reliable operation, simple structure, easy manufacturing, and relatively high oil pressure, so it is widely used.
When the engine is running, the drive gear on the camshaft drives the transmission gear of the oil pump, causing the drive gear fixed on the drive gear shaft to rotate, which in turn drives the driven gear to rotate in the opposite direction. This moves the oil from the oil inlet chamber along the gear gaps and pump walls to the oil outlet chamber. Thus, a low pressure is formed at the oil inlet chamber, creating suction that draws oil from the oil pan into the inlet chamber. Because the drive and driven gears continuously rotate, the oil is continuously pumped to the required parts.
